Opening a Bank Account in USA for International Students

When most students get accepted into college in the US, it is a time of great excitement!

However, you soon start worrying – how will I open a bank account when I land in the US? Which bank should I use? Why can’t I sign up for an account before I go?

Well, now, there is a new service that lets you do all that – North Loop.

North Loop is a bank for international students in the US. Either you can be a new international student going to the US for the first time, or a current international student. Its designed for all international students in the US.

It takes 5 minutes to sign up for an account, and it’s completely digital – you download the app and sign up using the app. No need to go to a bank branch with your documents – all of this can be done from the comfort of your house thanks to North Loop.

North Loop doesn’t require a social security number, so all new international students can sign up. The account is completely secure – FDIC insured (guaranteed by the US government upto $250,000) so your money is safe. You get a VISA debit card with an EMV chip that is protected by VISA and extremely secure as well. It has all the safety and features of all other banks in the USA, like Citibank or Chase, but it is completely free!

Interestingly, they have added a whole bunch of features exclusively designed for students who come to the US to study (e.g. if you are from China or India). They don’t charge any incoming wire fees (most banks charge $40) and they also provide you with instant wire transfers and refunds on currency charges!

They also have a comprehensive rewards scheme, that includes cashback at popular stores on campus and even a whole year of free Amazon Prime.

If you’re looking for a way to finance your education, they also provide student loans at extremely competitive rates.
