How To Make Your Business More Green

The wild weather changes in the last few years have been a constant reminder of Climate Change and its’ impact on the environment.  Businesses are now implementing changes to be more environmentally conscious of their practices and procedures.  This is a win-win for both the company from an ethical and public-relations standpoint and the Earth.  There are many different ways that a company can go “green”, we’ll look at a few of them below.

Recycling

Recycling is one of the oldest and most popular ways to rid the landfills of excess materials and help beautify the land.  Things that a business could look at in recycling terms are ink cartridges, plastic bottles, aluminum soda cans, paper, etc.  This also lessens the load on your garbage bags going out to the dumpster.

Cut Down On Chemicals While You Clean

There are a lot of bio-degradable cleaning products on the market these days.  From hand washing soap, dish soap, laundry detergent, spray cleaners, etc.  You can help keep toxic chemicals out of the waterways and do your part while you keep things clean inside the office and bathrooms.

LED Bulbs

The advent of the LED (Light-Emitting Diode) bulb in the last decade has really changed the game for the illumination industry.  Compared to their fluorescent and incandescent counterparts, LED’s are safer to use and save money over the long term.  LED’s use less energy and have no toxic gases or mercury to worry about.  The longevity of the LED’s offsets the higher price for them and you actually come out ahead.

Imparting The Green

Companies can spread the word of going green into the Company culture.  It should be a lifestyle and not a quick-fix or a trend to follow.  Once a company implements this at all levels of management, the employees will take it to heart as well.  Some of those same employees will implement it into their life as well and the green word will spread within their own personal lives with family and friends.

Do Business With Like-minded Vendors

Continuing from the Green Implementation above, you can always bolster your green initiative and strengthen business by doing business with other vendors who are also eco-friendly.  This creates a network of like-minded businesses and forms an Alliance of earth-friendly vendors who can slowly build that network out over time.

Save Energy By Using Sustainable Energy

There are many ways a business could utilize sustainable energy.  You could change your Fleet from gasoline cars to hybrid or electric cars.  You could install some wind turbines or windmills to harness wind energy and put out less energy from the grid.  You could also use solar panels for the business to include renewable and sustainable energy.  Commercial solar panels are quite affordable these days and it’s one of the strongest ways to harness the power of the sun.

To conclude, switching to a green constitution can save money in the long-term.  More important than fiscal responsibility is the responsibility of taking care of the planet.  Being green as a business not only helps the business and its clientele, it helps out all of us as a collective whole.
