Fooling Your Way to a Cold Call

You are not going to believe this! I just landed with a call to the CEO of an important company. Are you wondering how I got this done? Believe me, it was so simple that I too was surprised at how I never bothered to try it before. So, have you ever wished you could directly get on line with an important person you need to deal with in order to achieve something in your business? Then, here is a cold calling script on how to get past the gatekeeper. Read on to know how you can do this too:

Before we move on, let’s first consider the two main obstacles that most people come across when trying to make a cold call, and who, most of the time, are the reason we cannot make a cold call:

The receptionist – Our ringtone is most likely going to end by a groomed “hello” on the end of the line. Only, this voice is not very pleasing to hear as it is the voice of someone standing in the way of our cold call.

The personal assistant – Now, this one is more difficult than the receptionist. While the receptionist may finally get you through, this person is someone who takes pride in guarding her manager from calls like yours and will probably ask you to send a mail or other such thing.

So, how do you deal with a person like this? Here are three ways to help you with a cold calling script:

Act like the boss knows you – Now, don’t get this wrong. Please don’t literally say that the boss knows you to blow up all chances by losing the person’s trust. What you need to do is use the right choice of words.

So, instead of “hello, it’s Mr. Michael from so and so” how about, “can you leave a message telling Mr. Hugh that Michael has something for him?” Now, this cannot go wrong, can it?

Be Confident – “Um” and “well…” have no place when you are trying to convince a personal assistant to get you through to her boss. Be crisp about what you want without babbling. You need to ensure that you are not trying to explain or convince the person about anything.

Make it Sound Urgent – Tell her what it is about. No matter whether she understands or not, the idea is to make it sound urgent and important.
